In case no ones heard of it before, In short It's about Alan Wake, a bestselling writer, hasn't managed to write anything in over two years. Now his wife, Alice, brings him to the idyllic small town of Bright Falls to recover his creative flow. When she vanishes without a trace, Wake finds himself trapped in a nightmare. Word by word, his latest work - a thriller he cannot even remember writing - is coming true before his eyes.
-Visuals- 9/10
The visuals of this game has been a subject of much discussion on several forums, and critics have all have different opinions on it.
Apart from very few small glitches, the two main topics were in short Screen Tearing, and the voice, and facial animations.
While i myself experienced very little, if any Screen Tearing, the facial animations were indeed a little off. I didn't find it that upsetting, nor particularly annoying, but this is all up to the individual player to decide.
Other than that the visuals were close to perfect. The scenery at times truly leaves you speechless.
-Sound- 9/10
The sound effects of the game does a lot to help set the mood for the game. Both the ambient sounds of wildlife, and combat sounds are amazing, and they are really put to the test at times in the game when you encounter many enemies at once.
Along with the soundtrack, which is in the top 3 for greatest Game soundtracks for me at least, all the sounds you will hear come together to form one hell of an amazing gaming experience.
-Gameplay- 9/10
The controls are very good. Although not 100% original, they really make you feel confident in playing, and rarely compromises your overall experience.
The combat Is quite interesting in that you literally have to use light as your weapon. This allows a small amount of strategic thinking to be done in order to survive tough encounters with multiple foes of different classes. Since you cannot simply fire off your weapon randomly and kill something you need to calculate your moves, and know when to run for cover.
The only Gameplay aspect i don't like very much Is when driving a car. Theres no speeder adjustment as in most racer games, but only an On/Off setting for the gas, so you can't drive along nice, and smooth, but rather bumpy.
-Story- 10/10
Of course a game about a writer needs a flawless, well executed storyline that leaves you wanting more.
Alan Wake certainly delivers this. Theres cliffhangers, love stories, action packed bullet time moments, and much more.
The story in Alan Wake, along with the gameplay experience, It gives i find rather hard to explain in words, you almost need to play it for yourself, and let yourself be drawn into this mysterious action packed horror thriller.
-Overall- 9.5/10
The only thing i find that drags the game down is the facial animation. While it doesn't ruin the entire game altogether, It can be felt as not living up to It's full potential.
All in all, Alan Wake is a fantastic story driven game with a truly amazing story thats hard to let go.
I can only highly recommend this to all Xbox 360 owners.
