In the year 1911, John Marston, a retired outlaw formerly of a gang led by Dutch van der Linde, is taken away from his wife Abigail and his son Jack by government agents. The agents tell John that his family will be safely returned to him if he hunts down and kills the remaining lead members of his former gang. Left with no choice, John travels to the county of New Austin to capture or kill one of his old friends...
-Visuals- 10/10
The open-world gameplay of Red Dead Redemption called for a Lot of different sceneries, all of which are made close to perfect.
Whether your riding across the prairie at sunset, or having gang shootouts in Mexico the scenery all comes together to create an awesome atmosphere. The world you can roam around Is quite large, and divided into 3 overall zones, these are, Northern zone with snowy mountain regions, and "modern" cities, with a few ranches, The Western zone with prairies and old fashioned western cities, and a Mexican zone south of the border with a revolution well under way.
-Sound- 10/10
The soundtrack itself Is very well put together, and does It's best to create the western atmosphere You'd expect. But the reason I've given the sound 10/10, Is 2 prominent sound effects. The classic pistol sound made famous by classic western movies I don't even need to mention, and the possibly most famous Scream in movie history: The Wilhelm scream made famous in the Star Wars movies.
While not crucial to the game in any way, It makes me feel good hearing such classic, and familiar sounds.
-Gameplay- 9/10
The gameplay Is indeed very good, and solid, and easy to use. It's not mind blowingly new, or original, but It works brilliantly nevertheless.
The shootouts are truly amazing, and a key feature Is the "Dead Eye" targeting system which slows down the fight in a Bullet Time manner, and allows you to place crucial shots to your enemies, and as the game progresses you can also paint your target with up to 22 points.
-Story- 9/10
The story takes place in 1911, and 1914 respectively, and focuses on John Marston. A retired Outlaw trying to escape his violent past, and have a normal family life.
All the story missions in the game are indeed both clever, well written, and at times very amusing, and It is hard to stop playing once you get going. The story takes you all over the old West, and even across the border, and gives you a very good idea of what life might have been like in these times.
-Overall- 10/10
Except for a few small visual glitches the game truly deserves all the 10's, and 9's critics worldwide have given it. Both Single, and Multiplayer modes are immensely fun, and provides hours, and days of good entertainment.
I highly recommend all gamers get this game, It really is a must have.
